We measure the ice that remains.
Satellite altimetry, radar, glacier weather observations and black-carbon sampling across tropical Peruvian glaciers.
Current evidence
The strongest quantitative result is a hypsometry-area-weighted surface lowering of −1.463 m yr⁻¹ across the Vilcanota glacier ensemble during the ICESat‑2 era. InSAR provides an advanced diagnostic of coherent surface motion, while atmospheric black-carbon and laboratory evidence remain preliminary. Fire attribution is not yet supported by a final Sentinel‑5P event analysis.
