Sentinel‑5P and fire exposure
Designed methodology, no validated final product yet
research
Transparent status of the TROPOMI aerosol and fire component.
Final execution pending
Current status
No validated Sentinel‑5P series, definitive event catalogue, anomaly maps or synchronized exposure windows are currently available. It is therefore not scientifically valid to attribute observed Vilcanota lowering to specific fires.
Candidate products
| Product | Role | Limitation |
|---|---|---|
| UV Aerosol Index | Absorbing aerosol and plumes | Does not measure BC mass or deposition |
| CO | Combustion and transport tracer | Long lifetime and regional mixing |
| NO₂ | Urban/fossil combustion and fires | Urban sources and resolution |
| HCHO | Biomass-related chemistry | Weak signal and biogenic sources |
| SO₂ | Volcanic/point-combustion control | Not the main fire tracer |
Closure criterion
Daily and moving composites, day-of-year climatology, anomalies, fire detections, trajectories, matched negative controls, lag analysis and AL30/AE33 validation are required before this component is promoted beyond pending.
